Bola Tinubu, a former governor of Lagos and national leader of the All Progressives Congress (APC) is advocating for the removal of fuel subsidy.

 According to him, it would help address the
persistent fuel scarcity in the country,
Channels TV reports.
Asiwaju Bola Ahmed Tinubu
Speaking on Friday, December 18, at the 10th
year memorial anniversary seminar for late Dr
Bala Usman in Kaduna state, Tinubu said the
time has come for the removal subsidy, which
favoured only a privileged few while the
majority of other Nigerians were living in
poverty and hunger.
According to him, the money that will be save
from the removal of subsidy could go a long
way to aid in the revival of the nation’s
refineries, reactivate the rail transport system
and also provide other basic infrastructure for
the citizens.
 

Jonathan Administration behind fuel scarcity

 Lai Mohammed, the minister of information,
on Monday, December 21, has blamed former
president Goodluck Jonathan’s administration
for the present fuel queues being experienced across the country.

The minister made this known when he spoke
to reporters shortly after the end of Federal
Executive Council meeting at the State
House, Abuja.
He said that Jonathan’s government failed to
make provision for fuel subsidy as far back as
August 2014,The Nation reports.

 BREAKING: Northern govs begin emergency meeting over Shiites, Army clash

An emergency meeting of the governors of the 19 Northern states, under the aegis of Northern States Governors’ Forum, has commenced in Kaduna.

The governors called the emergency meeting to discuss recent events in the region, with special emphasis on the clash between soldiers and Shiite members in Zaria, Kaduna State, last Saturday.

No fewer than 60 persons reportedly died in the bloody clash.
 

Obama appoint a Nigeria as cheif of Security

 esident Barrack Obama has appointed son
of a Nigerian immigrant, Adewale ‘Wally’
Adeyemo as his deputy National Security
Advisor for international economics.
This new appointment is coming at a time
when anti-immigrant rhetoric is consuming a
section of the American political divide as
they prepare to usher in a new president.

The 34-year-old’s appointment was announced
at the White House in Washington DC, on
Tuesday and President Obama said he “will be
calling on Wally’s intellect, judgment and
dedication as we sustain America’s global
economic leadership, which reinforces our
national security, and as we work with allies and
partners around the world to create jobs and
opportunity for all our people.”
Premium Times reports that Adeyemo’s story
is that of hard work, inspiration, and strict
family values that came together 25 years ago
when in February 9, 1990, he was steered out
of bed by his father, Joseph Adeyemo, who
now works as the principal at the Terrace
View Elementary School, Colton, in California.
Wally, as the younger Adeyemo is fondly
called, is a graduate of the University of
California, Berkeley, where he received his
bachelor’s degree and the Yale University Law
school, where he was the students’ body
president.
Adeyemo joined the Treasury Department in
2009 after law school, working alongside
policymakers charged with coordinating
international response to global recession.
He was seconded to the team charged to
implement a part of the Wall Street Reform
and Consumer Protection Act in 2010, where
he worked for now Senator Elizabeth Warren
as the first Chief of Staff of the Consumer
Financial Protection Bureau.
The young man is expected to play a key role
in coordinating United States’ response to
international financial crises while working
with international partners and allies to
strategise and implement targeted economic
policies to advance and strengthen American
national security and economic goals.
